Slicer and Unfold tool
Hi Guys,
Here are links to tutorials for the Slicer and Unfold plugins for SketchUp I mentioned in the course outline:
Slicer: http://www.cad-addict.com/2009/07/sketchup-plugins-slice-your-model.html
Unfold tool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcnyFolpVBg
Try either, or both, to transform the faces of your 3 dimensional models into 2 dimensions ready for laser cutting next Monday.
(Note: our temporary workspace was left unlocked as hoped for)
Cheers

Laser Cutting and Illustrator Killer Tips
Hi Guys,
Follow this link for a sample of what's possible with the laser cutter.
And this one for some tips on how to use adobe illustrator.
This one is a zipped file with the adobe illustrator template for the laser cutter in it (copied from the FBE website; intranet so must log on).
And finally, this one called the basics of laser cutting; pay special attention to the section on supplying "laser friendly cad files".
Take a look at all this stuff before next week; and remember to bring something along to cut.
Cheers

Hot Wire Cutter
Hi All,
I just ordered this Hot Wire cutter to supplement the one we already have ... I'm not sure we agreed on which one to get; the table version versus the hand held one, but i figured it would be worth getting something different to try.
I also saw the $78 one that someone mentioned as well ... but it had less power and looked a little frail in comparison. Hopefully this one will last the semester of intensive use ... $140 including shipping.
Hopefully it will be here by Wednesday.

SketchUp starter and refresher tutorials
Hi All,
To learn SketchUp (or get a refresher) begin by following this link:
http://www.sketchup.com/training/videos/new_to_gsu.html.
In the SketchUp Playlists do the "Getting Started" playlist (parts 1-4) first.
Have the "Instructor" open while you select tools to use ... WINDOW > INSTRUCTOR.
Then take a look at some of the videos on the "Familiar with Sketchup" playlist. The Autofold one is new ... and looks like it might be useful.
I'd also recommend getting together in groups ... you'll be surprised how much easier and more productive it is when you have 3 people working on the same tutorial at the same time.
Cheers
